When it came to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, Mike Dunleavy, then coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, saw the handwriting on the wall early in the 1995-'96 National Basketball Association season. After an early-season loss to the Bulls, Dunleavy declared Jordan's Bulls to be the best team in the league. After getting blown out by the Bulls a month later, Dunleavy upped the ante by saying the Bulls may be the best team ever. After a third loss to the Bulls, Dunleavy predicted the Bulls would win 70 games. Those proved to be prophetic words because on April 16, 1996 at the Bradley Center, Jordan scored 22 points in an 86-80 victory over the Bucks as Chicago became the first team in NBA history to win 70 games. It was the crowning moment in Jordan's long rivalry with the Bucks. "This will eliminate a lot of the BS about when Mike came back last year," said Bucks forward Glenn Robinson after Chicago's 70th victory. "When he came back, they said he wasn't the same player. He looked the same to me. I love it when Mike makes people eat their words. That's what I love most about him." Robinson's comment still applies today as Jordan has returned again and his history with the Bucks will be re-born tonight when the Washington Wizards take on the Bucks at the Bradley Center. |
