Art Garcia of the Star-Telegram reports that Yugoslavia pulled out a stunnung victory to secure the World Championship against Argentina, 84-77. Rallying behind the clutch shooting of Dejan Bodiroga, Yugoslavia overcame an eight-point deficit in the final two minutes of regulation. Yugoslavia finished the job in overtime, sending Argentina home shell-shocked. "Our team showed a lot of heart," said Bodiroga, who scored nine consecutive points before OT and finished with 27. "This was a quality match for both teams," Argentina player Andres Noccioni said. "At the end, we didn't cover what we needed to, and that is why we didn't win." Yugoslavia (7-2) has won two straight Championship titles, three in the last four events and five overall. Yugoslavia takes over the Championship medal lead from the United States, netting its 10th to nine for the USA. Argentina (8-1) couldn't rely on its best player, Emanuel Ginobili, who played 12 ineffective minutes on an ankle sprained in the semifinals Saturday. |
