Dave Anderson of the New York Times reports that the Nets have to deal with great expectations. The defending Eastern Conference Champions still have one of the leagues’ best players in Jason Kidd, but they have added the defense and depth needed to repeat in the East. Kidd, Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles may be important to the Nets, success, but Dikembe Mutombo may be the key to their season. He represents the designated difference from last season's team. "We had a problem defending around the rim," Rod Thorn, the Nets' president said. "We think he can enhance our running game and make us an even better team." Mutombo won’t be running with the Nets all that often, but his defensive stops and rebounding will lead to quick outlet passes to Kidd starting the Nets’ fast break. |
