The New Jersey Nets, in the middle of a slump, left for an important four game road trip today missing one obvious piece of their puzzle, guard Chris Childs not making the trip. He is not injured, was not at practice and the team offered no explanation for his absence or a hint of what might come next.

After signing a two year contract in the off season Steve Popper of the New York Times writes that the two entities are working on an arrangement to terminate the relationship, Childs told to stay home while the negotiations take place.

If Childs is waived, the Nets will be responsible for the remainder of his salary. He would most likely be out of action for at least the remainder of the season because players had to join a roster by March 1 to be included on a playoff roster.
