Sonics rookie Paccelis Morlende injured his right hamstring yesterday and likely will miss Seattle's final three games in the Southern California Summer Pro League. The Sonics acquired Morlende, a second-round pick from France, in a draft-day trade with Philadelphia last month. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard averaged 9.3 points and 2.3 assists entering yesterday's game. "The first game I didn't play very well, but the second game I felt better," Morlende said. "I'm injured now and want to prove that I think I can do good things for them." Morlende plans to meet with Sonics general manager Rick Sund and the coaching staff to discuss whether he will return home or remain in the United States and participate in the Sonics' preseason training camp. Second-round picks are not guaranteed a contract and Morlende would be competing with first-round pick Luke Ridnour and veterans Ray Allen, Brent Barry and Ronald Murray — players with guaranteed contracts — for a spot on the roster. |
