A few scenarios continue to exist for the Mavericks, who are looking to tweak the bottom end of the roster. Dealing newly acquired Chris Mills remains a viable option, as does creating trade exceptions with such a move to free up salary cap room.

Mills, with one year left on his contract at $6.6 million, could be used as bait for teams looking to dump salary. The Mavs are somewhat interested in acquiring another frontcourt player, either a power forward or center.

The Mavs could also package free agents Walt Williams and Raja Bell with Mills, or other players, to make a potential trade work. Mavs president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said the team would resume talks with Bell on Thursday or Friday.

Keeping Mills would benefit the Mavs for financial reasons. If Mills is on the injured reserve list, likely considering his recent history of injuries and the 14 guaranteed contracts already on the roster, insurance would cover 80 percent of his salary.
