On Monday, Eagle County Judge Frederick Gannett ruled that Lakers star Kobe Bryant would have to stand trial for sexual assault. If convicted Bryant could face a life sentence.
Criminal defense lawyer Craig Skinner implied the way the judge ordered Bryant to stand trial could mean something.
"I don't recall hearing a judge make statements like that before at the preliminary hearing stage," Skinner said. "They usually do not give a written opinion. They usually say, 'I find probable cause, get your calendars out.' "
Skinner also said it was worded in such a way that "it's as if he's saying they should deal the case out as quickly as possible, or they're going to lose it."
Bryant will have to appear in an Eagle County court on November fifth for his arraignment where he can enter a plea at that time.
