Deputy commissioner Russ Granik said the NBA has asked a group led by former New York Knicks and Madison Square Garden president Dave Checketts to examine the viability of putting a franchise in Europe.

There is no timetable for such a move, though commissioner David Stern has said the end of the decade is a possibility.
