The Seattle Supersonics outlasted the Denver Nuggets in double-overtime last night, dropping them back into a tie with the Golden State Warriors for the final playoff spot in the West in the process.

Kevin Durant hit a three-pointer with twenty-five seconds left in regulation to force overtime, then converted another to force a second overtime with just five seconds left in the initial extra period. Chris Paul led the New Orleans Hornets to a convincing victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night. Paul had 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists and David West added 25 points and 9 boards for the Hornets, who hit 50% of their shots and scored 31 points off turnovers. Monta Ellis led the Warriors with 35 points and 10 rebounds, while Andris Biedrins contributed 17 points and 15 boards in New Orleans. Golden State momentarily slipped to a half-game behind Denver for the eighth seed in the West with the loss.

The Dallas Mavericks used a 27-9 fourth quarter advantage to knock off the Phoenix Suns last night. Dirk Nowitzki notched 32 points and 12 rebounds and Josh Howard tallied 24 points, 9 boards and 4 assists for the Mavericks, who shot 47% from the field and turned the ball over just six times. Amare Stoudemire had 31 points and 6 rebounds and Shaquille O’Neal added 13 points and 13 boards for the Suns, who went ice cold in the final period and also got a double-double from Steve Nash. The win allowed Dallas to take a two-game lead over Golden State in the West playoff race.

The Detroit Pistons thumped the Miami Heat on Sunday night thanks to a decisive second quarter run. Rookie Rodney Stuckey notched 19 points and Jason Maxiell added 10 points and 7 rebounds as Flip Saunders rested his stars for a majority of the game. Detroit shot 50% from the field and outrebounded Miami by eight on the road. Earl Barron scored 20 points and Ricky Davis added 11 points and 9 rebounds for the Heat, who hit just 35% of their shots and continued to field a lineup comprised of players who started the season in the developmental league.

The Indiana Pacers used a huge fourth quarter to down the Milwaukee Bucks and complete a home-and-home sweep last night. Danny Granger posted 27 points and 7 rebounds and Jeff Foster added 16 points and 15 boards for the Pacers, who hit just 41% of their shots but took great care of the basketball. Michael Redd had 24 points and Charlie Villanueva added 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Bucks, who outrebounded Indiana by three and also got 16 points and 14 boards from Andrew Bogut. Indiana moved to within three games of the Hawks for the East’s final playoff slot with the win.

The San Antonio Spurs beat the Portland Trail Blazers in a low-scoring outing on Sunday night. Tim Duncan notched 27 points and 11 rebounds and Manu Ginobili added 10 points and 6 assists off the bench for the Spurs, who shot 38% on the night and outrebounded Portland by just one. Brandon Roy returned to post 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists and LaMarcus Aldridge added 12 points and 11 boards for the Blazers, who hit just 34% of their shots and were without Martell Webster. Portland’s Joel Przybilla left in the second quarter after breaking his hand while contesting a shot by Ime Udoka.

The Memphis Grizzles used a strong fourth quarter to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves last night. Mike Miller exploded for 34 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and Rudy Gay added 23 points, 9 boards and 6 dimes for the Grizzles, who shot 44% from the field and turned the ball over just nine times. Ryan Gomes notched 19 points and 8 rebounds and Rashard McCants contributed 16 points off the bench for the Wolves, who shot 51% on the night but went cold in the fourth quarter. Both teams have been out of playoff contention for quite some time.

The New York Knicks knocked off the Orlando Magic with a surprisingly strong effort on Sunday night. Wilson Chandler posted 23 points and 8 rebounds and Zach Randolph tallied 20 points and 11 boards for the Knicks, who shot just 35% but went 27-for-35 from the foul line. Dwight Howard notched his customary double-double (13 points and 15 rebounds) and Hedo Turkoglu had 22 points and 6 assists for the Magic, who hit 40% of their shot attempts and committed six more turnovers than New York. Orlando clinched the third seed in the Eastern Conference on Saturday night.

The Los Angeles Lakers used a strong second and third quarter effort to defeat the Sacramento Kings last night. Vladimir Radmanovic had 21 points and 14 rebounds and Kobe Bryant notched 29 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the Lakers, who shot 52% from the field and outrebounded Sacramento by thirteen. Kevin Martin posted 22 points and Spencer Hawes added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings, who struggled from the field but forced nineteen turnovers. The Lakers are still 1.5 games behind New Orleans for the top seed in the Western Conference.

The Houston Rockets used a 13-point fourth quarter advantage to hold off the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night. Tracy McGrady posted 13 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds and Aaron Brooks contributed 18 points off the bench for the Rockets, who outrebounded Los Angeles by eighteen and went 22-for-27 from the charity stripe. Elton Brand tallied 19 points and 8 rebounds and Josh Powell added 22 points and 10 boards in a reserve role for the Clippers, who converted just 43% of their field goal attempts and got little from players not named Brand, Powell or Cuttino Mobley (11 points and 5 assists). The win allowed Houston to clinch a playoff berth.

Carmelo Anthony posted 38 points and 11 rebounds and Allen Iverson added 26 points and 13 assists for the Nuggets, who shot 50% and hit twelve three-pointers at KeyArena. Nick Collison (19 points and 14 rebounds) and Earl Watson (16 and 11 assists) both contributed double-doubles in Seattle’s win, while Marcus Camby (12 and 13 boards) added one for the Nuggets in the loss. Denver lost out on an opportunity to take a one-game lead over Golden State for the eighth slot in the West.
