The Lakers clinched the first overall slot with a victory over the Kings, while the Hornets locked up second with a thumping of the Clippers. The Orlando Magic used an impressive second half run to defeat the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night. Maurice Evans had 27 points and Dwight Howard tallied 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Magic, who made 57% of their shots and scored 16 points off turnovers. Josh Childress posted 15 points and 6 rebounds off the bench and Marvin Williams scored another 16 points for the Hawks, who led by four at the half and grabbed six more offensive rebounds than Orlando.

The Detroit Pistons gave their starters a fair amount of rest, but were still able to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves comfortably last night. Chauncey Billups had 17 points and 6 assists and Jarvis Hayes scored 20 points off the bench for the Pistons, who made half of their field goals and outrebounded Minnesota by four. Al Jefferson led with 30 points and 9 rebounds and Rashad McCants added 19 points for the Wolves, who scored 18 points off turnovers but attempted eleven fewer free throws than Detroit.

The New Jersey Nets prevailed in an overtime battle with the visiting Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday night. Richard Jefferson had 28 points and 5 assists and Devin Harris tallied 17 points and 8 dimes for the Nets, who forced seventeen Charlotte turnovers and reached the charity stripe ten more times. Jason Richardson starred with 31 points and 10 rebounds and Raymond Felton tallied 18 points, 8 assists and 6 boards for the Bobcats, who outrebounded New Jersey by twelve but converted just 42% of their shots in the loss.

The New Orleans Hornets used a 65-41 advantage in the second half to down the Los Angeles Clippers last night. David West scored 32 points and Chris Paul notched 22 points and 12 assists for the Hornets, who hit 50% of their shots and turned the ball over just five times all night. Rookie Al Thornton starred for the Clippers with 26 points and 5 rebounds and Corey Maggette added 13 points in the loss. L.A. went 6-for-14 from three-point land, but allowed New Orleans to score 20 points off of their sixteen miscues. The victory allowed the Hornets to clinch the Southwest Division title and the second seed in the Western Conference.

The Portland Trail Blazers downed the Memphis Grizzles on Tuesday night ensure their first non-losing season in quite some time. James Jones scored 20 points and Brandon Roy added 16 points, 11 assists and 5 rebounds for the Blazers, who shot 50% from the floor and took great care of the basketball. Hakim Warrick notched 17 points and 14 rebounds and Mike Conley contributed 13 points, 8 assists and 7 boards for the Grizzles, who outrebounded Portland by two but struggled from the field (42%).

The Los Angeles Lakers clinched the best record in the Western Conference with a dominant win over the Sacramento Kings last night. Pau Gasol posted 22 points and 7 rebounds and Lamar Odom tallied 15 points and 12 boards for the Lakers, who shot 51% on the night and forced twenty Sacramento turnovers. Quincy Douby led with 32 points and John Salmons added 11 points and 9 rebounds for the Kings, who went 8-for-13 from long-range but sent L.A. to the foul line sixteen more times at the STAPLES Center. The Lakers will host either the Mavericks or Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs.
