Andrew Perna/RealGM - The Boston Celtics struck first against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game One of their semifinal series on Tuesday night with a 76-72 win.
Kevin Garnett led with 28 points and 8 rebounds and Sam Cassell added 13 points in a key reserve role for the Celtics, who limited Cleveland to 30% shooting while turning over the ball an alarming twenty-two times.
Garnett brought it all for the Boston, who didn't get much of anything from Ray Allen or Paul Pierce.
Allen went 0-for-4, scoring zero points for the first time since 1997. Pierce, who scored just four points against six turnovers, shot 2-for-14 on the night.
LeBron James struggled as well, scoring just 12 points after going 2-for-18 from the floor. LBJ added 9 rebounds, 9 assists and a less-than-desirable 10 turnovers.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas gave Cleveland a chance with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Wally Szczerbiak added 13 points in the loss.
James missed three field goals in Cleveland's final three possessions.
He missed a layup that was tipped in by Ilgauskas to tie the game at 72 with 39 seconds left.
After Garnett gave Boston a 74-72 lead on the next possession, James missed another running layup. James Posey then iced the game with a pair of free throws after collecting the rebound.
LeBron then missed the final heave of the game, a three-pointer from the top of the key that found the hands of Rajon Rondo rather than the net.
Game Two will be Thursday night as the Cavs look to even up the series. [READ]
