For the first time, Mike D'Antoni watched the Knicks' 19-year-old first-round pick, Danilo Gallinari, play in person.

The coach liked what he saw from the rookie.

"I'll tell you and I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself, but he's really good," D'Antoni said. "He's stronger than I thought. He's more athletic than I thought. And he shoots the heck out of it."

"He can bang," D'Antoni continued. "When he takes a hit, his expression does not change. He got clobbered and was right back in his face .... He's got a chance to be really special."

As reported in the New York Times, D'Antoni also said that he is "extremely pumped up" about the potential of Wilson Chandler.

"He’s got a lot of skills," D’Antoni said.
