Lakers guard Derek Fisher, president of the NBA Players Association, touched on the unique situations of jettisoned guards Stephon Marbury and Jamaal Tinsley recently.

"It's just more unfortunate more than anything," said Fisher of Marbury's situation in New York. "It definitely seems like there is a resolution other than the one that is taking place right now. But it seems like more steps are needed to just giving or be willing to sacrifice enough to make something happen. I just think it's going to stay at a standstill for now."

Unfortunately, Fisher doesn't see a resolution on the horizon for Marbury and the Knicks.

"Not that I can tell. It seems like the team is content to stand in this position. It sounds tough to pay a guy as much as Steph is due to make this year and basically ask him to stay away. Unless Steph is willing to take a significant amount lower than what he's owed for the year, I don't know at this point in the season if anything is going to really give," Fisher added.

Meanwhile, Tinsley has been sent away by the Pacers, and his agent expects to file a grievance against the team within the next week.

"From what Billy [Hunter, NBAPA executive director] told me, Jamal was going to go to the NBAPA offices to go down and meet and see how the union can try to help him resolve the situation," said Fisher. "I think what makes his situation different, from what we've been told, is that he didn't necessarily agree to stay away from the team.

"It's just a tough precedent to set to just eat a guy's contract and tell him to go away, hold him up and not allow him to do anything else. That's something we definitely don't want to see continue."
