The first round ended mere hours before the second round started on Sunday, with the Hawks punching their ticket to Cleveland just minutes prior to Denver's win over Dallas at the Pepsi Center.

The Hawks (4-3) used a strong second quarter to eliminate the Heat (3-4) and move into the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1999. Joe Johnson led with 27 points and 5 rebounds, Josh Smith posted 21 points and 9 boards, and Mike Bibby added 11 points and 6 assists in the deciding Game 7. Atlanta hit just 40% of their shots, but took tremendous care of the ball at Philips Arena. Miami won the rebounding battle by nine, but turned the ball over 17 times. Dwyane Wade starred with 31 points on 10-for-25 shooting, Udonis Haslem tallied 14 points and 13 boards, and rookie Michael Beasley contributed 17 points and 7 boards off the bench. The Hawks will now face the top-seeded Cavaliers with a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals on the line.

The Nuggets (1-0) picked up right where they started on Sunday afternoon with win over the Mavericks (0-1) in Game 1 of their series. Nene led with 24 points and 5 assists, J.R. Smith tallied 15 points and 6 dimes, and Carmelo Anthony turned in 23 points and 5 rebounds. Denver shot 54% from the field, while holding Dallas to 48% shooting. The Mavericks outrebounded the Nuggets by seven, but turned the ball over 20 times and attempted just 13 foul shots. Dirk Nowitzki starred with 28 points and 10 rebounds, Jason Terry posted 15 points and 5 boards, and Jason Kidd chipped in 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in the loss. The Nuggets used a seven-point edge in the fourth quarter to seize control of what was a very close game.
