"It's a good thing that [Boston Coach] Doc [Rivers] and I aren't in a campaign for anything, because we agree on a lot of things," Van Gundy said. "... I don't know what everybody is talking about when they say it's been really physical. We got a suspension on a slap to the head that I think all of you could have survived. I don't think it's been overly physical at all." Orlando point guard Rafer Alston was suspended for Friday night's Game 3 after smacking Eddie House on the head, and Kendrick Perkins was whistled for a flagrant-1 foul in Boston's Game 3 loss after elbowing Mickael Pietrus in the neck. "I think if go back to late '80s with Chuck [Daly's] teams in the late '80s and early '90s, that's when you get real physical play," Van Gundy added. "The NBA has legislated out a lot of physical play. And while a lot of us will have different opinions, it's been good for the product on the floor." |
