The Heat have laid off a number of employees in response to the nation's economic struggles.

Miami team president Eric Woolworth said in a statement that a small number of positions were eliminated, but didn't specify just how many.

"The Heat Group and its employees remain focused on delivering a quality experience to guests and sponsors," Woolworth added.
