Rajon Rondo will be a restricted free agent next summer, but could sign an extension with the Celtics this year. The Celtics may want to wait on that extension in order to have greater financial flexibility for other team needs in the meantime.

RealGM Note: Rondo was ranked 15th in season FIC and therefore 'deserved' a salary just over $15M during the 2008-09 season. Rondo had a Reina Value of +1,049%, making him one of the biggest bargains in the NBA. He will likely receive a max or near-max contract when he does sign an extension.
