The Sixers' plans to sign Derrick McKey had been placed on hold when McKey said he was not physically ready to play. The Sixers made a move anyway by signing Tim James on Monday. James had been waived by the Hornets last month. In order to make room for James, Ira Bowman has been waived.

By releasing Bowman (a guard) and signing James (a forward) the Sixers are further depleting a dangerously thin backcourt. RealGM speculates that this may be a sign that Allen Iverson and/or Aaron McKie are very close to returning from injury.
