Kukoc Tests Foot

Atlanta Small Forward Toni Kukoc took an opportunity to test out his foot on Monday, as coaches and trainers were away at a luncheon. "There was nobody here to stop me," Kukoc said, smiling about his first action since foot surgery in April. Kukoc was cleared a week ago to start running after recuperating from a second therapy treatment to relieve pain in his right foot. He said he could not yet gauge his progress. "Well, the first one didn't help much," he said. "And now, this is the first time I actually ran, so we'll see the reaction in the next couple of days."

Hawks welcome MJ return

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the Hawks players, most notibly Toni Kukoc, are supporting the decision by Michael Jordan to come back. "Good for him if he does that, if he doesn't have anything better to do," Kukoc said. "He probably misses basketball and feels like he has something to offer." Dynamic guard Jason Terry added that he supported a Jordan comeback, as it would fulfil a childhood dream of his to play against the greatest.

Theo Ratliff, Alan Henderson and Shareef Abdur-Rahim all had different perspectives on the comeback, all positive, noting that Michael Jordan's second return to the NBA will be for the fans and will also help the league.

Hawks Say No To Wahad Deal

The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that the Hawks have backed away from a potential deal with the Denver Nuggets. The reported deal would have sent Nuggets guard Tariq Abdul-Wahad and center Kevin Willis to the Hawks for Alan Henderson, Cal Bowdler and Dion Glover. Since that would have not worked under the cap, the Hawks would have been required to add forward Hanno Mottola and the Nuggets would have added guard Calbert Cheaney.

Pete Babcock cited salary cap concerns as the major sticking point in the deal. Wahad has six years left at $38 million on his contract while Henderson has $28 million over four years. The Hawks also appear to be leery about going thin at the small forward spot with Tony Kukoc still recovering from a foot ailment.
