Atlanta Hawks Executive Vice President and General Manager Billy Knight announced several transactions today, beginning with the re-signing of point guard Tyronn Lue, the signing of rookie guard Salim Stoudamire and the acquisition of center John Edwards, a free agent from the Indiana Pacers. In accordance with club policy, no contract terms were released.
Obtained in a December 2004 trade from the Houston Rockets (for Jon Barry), Lue posted career-high scoring (11.2 ppg) and assists (4.6 apg) totals in 70 games last year, and in 49 of those contests with Atlanta, the 6-0 guard saw his numbers increase significantly with more playing time, as he recorded 13.5 points, 5.4 assists and 2.2 rebounds. He made 45 percent of his shots from the field and led the Hawks in three-point accuracy at 36.4%.
Lue started in 46 games, logging a personal best 31.2 minutes per game, and in a late-season, overtime victory over the New York Knicks (April 17, 139-135 Hawks), he accounted for a career-high 32 points.

With his part-ownership of the Atlanta Hawks now a thing of the past, Steve Belkin is sticking in the NBA and is already rumored to be looking to get involved with another NBA franchise.
The Daily News has learned that Belkin is already trying to buy another NBA team, and the transaction could happen within a year.
NBA commissioner David Stern has requested that all parties refrain from making further comments and concluded: ``The differing opinions among Hawks owners over the Joe Johnson trade made it clear that philosophical differences exist over how best to build the Hawks into a winning franchise. I appreciate that Steve has voluntarily resigned . . . in order to insure that the team can move forward with one voice. I certainly hope that he will consider returning to the NBA as an owner of another franchise in the near future.''

Gaining the services of their most talented free agent acquisition since Dikembe Mutombo
(’96), the Atlanta Hawks have obtained Joe Johnson from the Phoenix Suns for Boris Diaw and two conditional first round picks, it was announced today by Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight.
The high-flying Johnson, who begins his fifth NBA season in 2005-06, was one of the catalysts behind the resurgence of the Suns and their 62-20 record, which garnered the franchise’s first Pacific Division title since 1994-95. The 33-game improvement ranks as the third-best in league history.
“Joe has tremendous upside and provides our franchise with a player whose talents are worthy of All-Star consideration,” said Knight. “He has the versatility to play several positions for Coach (Mike) Woodson. Not only is Joe extremely gifted on the offensive end, his size on defense will give us a tremendous advantage against most teams. When you team him up with a combination of Josh Childress, Josh Smith, Al Harrington, Marvin Williams, Salim Stoudamire and Zaza Pachulia, we feel we have one of the best up-and-coming rosters in the league.
“I also want to express my appreciation to all who had a hand in getting Joe to Atlanta. The faith and confidence shown by our ownership group will never be forgotten, and the cooperation shown by Suns management, and Joe and his agent Arn Tellem spoke volumes to me. They have been unbelievable through this whole process and words can’t explain how grateful we are to them for their character and integrity through it all, for all of them sticking to their word and backing us up all the way.”
