Batista Signs With Atlanta

The Atlanta Hawks signed 6-foot-10 forward/center Esteban Batista, it was announced today by Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Batista would become the first native of Uruguay to play in the NBA.

“Esteban is an interesting player,” Knight said. “He’s a good rebounder, and is physical around the basket, and those are elements our team needs. We feel he’s a guy that can improve, and we look forward to working with him.”

“This is the happiest day of my life,” Batista said. “It’s a proud and historic moment for me, and for my country.”

Warriors May Make First Off-Season Move, Esteban Batista From Uruguay

The Atlanta Hawks gave Uruguayan center Esteban Batista a two year offer worth almost 900,000 dollars informed Pedro Perez, who works with Aaron Goodwin, who is Batista's agent.

"Batista is very happy to have the opportunity to play against the best players in the World," said Perez.

The offer was recieved on Friday, when Batista turned 22 years.

Batista revealed that his agent is also working an offer with Golden State, being Atlanta the best offer so far.

In eight games played, he averaged 18.0 points and 15.6 rebounds per game in the 2005 FIBA Americas Championship.
