Former first round selection of the Chicago Bulls, guard Corey Benjamin, was released by the expansion Charlotte Bobcats.

Benjamin signed as a free agent on July 29. In three preseason games, he scored two points with five rebounds in 23 minutes.

Benjamin entered the NBA draft after his sophomore season at Oregon State and was selected 28th overall by the Bulls. He averaged 5.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 144 NBA games with the Bulls.

Benjamin has since played for teams in Italy, France and in U.S. developmental leagues. He also had a brief stint with the Atlanta Hawks in 2002-03.

Bobcats Sign Brezec to an Undisclosed Contract

The Bobcats just signed Primoz Brezec in the wake of an impressive summer league in which the Slovenian-born center averaged 14.5 points and 6.7 rebounds.

"We were very happy when we had the opportunity to take Primoz in the expansion selection and we're delighted to be able to keep him on our roster for the next several years," Bobcats head coach Bernie Bickerstaff said Thursday in a prepared statement.

Mr. Brezec was taken by the Bobcats in the expansion draft from the Pacers where he played only 5.5 minutes a game.
