Jordan: 'No One Great Player In NBA'

Michael Jordan says there are a host of players worthy of having their number retired by the NBA.

Recently, players have initiated talks that Jordan's No. 23 should be retired league-wide. The firestorm started when Cavaliers star LeBron James announced that he'll soon switch from No. 23 to No. 6.

"It was very nice, I totally understand that," Jordan told NBA TV. "But I'm a guy that says there is no one great player in the NBA. The NBA lasts a lot longer than one particular person so I understand what his point is."

The NBA leaves the decision on retiring numbers to individual teams.

"Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, all those guys should have their jerseys retired, too," Jordan added. "I understand his gesture, but I am in the same group as those guys so I wouldn't want to see my jersey retired unless you retire those guys. It is a compliment. I totally understand that. I appreciate LeBron for doing that and it is very thoughtful."

Lingering Ankle Injury Still Slowing Rose

Bulls point guard Derrick Rose is still being slowed by his injured right ankle.

He sprained the ankle early in the preseason and the injury is still limiting him. Rose has yet to dunk this season, opting for layups.

"The times I've attempted to I was barely getting up," Rose said. "So I will just say it was a high layup."

Rose, who is averaging 14 points and 5.5 assists this season, knows that his ankle improves every day.

"Every day it's improving," Rose said. "...Before when I got up in the morning, I really couldn't walk well. I'd be stiff. But I haven't been stiff in about two or three weeks, so it's going fine."

Deng's Play Quiets Doubters

Luol Deng has had an excellent bounce back season so far.

Deng agrees he officially has turned the corner mentally from his injury but refuses to take glee in silencing any doubters who said he couldn't return to form.

"I'm not the kind of guy who speaks to defend himself," Deng said. "I just knew that when I'm healthy I could play this game. I don't cheat the game. I work as hard as I can. Some people say I could be better or whatever. But I know when I'm healthy, I'm going to play well."
