James shines in defeat

He didn't slow down much the rest of the game, even though his teammates lost their way a couple of times. James made nine of his first 13 shots and made enough dazzling assists and steals to fill a SportsCenter Top 10.

Cavs pick up Diop's option

"The Cavs picked up the option on DeSagana Diop's contract for the 2004-05 season. The No. 8 pick in the 2001 draft, Diop has averaged 1.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and .93 blocked shots per game in his two seasons."

LeBron is Cavaliers point man

Coach Paul Silas declared a few days before training camp that LeBron James would not start the season as the Cavaliers' starting point guard.

Silas, who raved about James' passing ability during summer league action in Orlando, Fla., and Boston, said he didn't want to put added pressure on the rookie by placing him in such a demanding position.
