NIT Adds Keady, Davalos To Selection Committee

The NIT added former Purdue coach Gene Keady and retired New Mexico athletic director Rudy Davalos to its selection committee Thursday.

Gene and Rudy bring years of experience and expertise with them," NIT president Greg Shaheen said. "Having gone through both the NIT Season Tip-off and the postseason NIT, we felt it was appropriate to add two more members to the committee to further diversify the geographic reach of the committee."

Bullet Fragment Removed From Duquesne's Ashaolu

Doctors removed a bullet fragment Monday from the head of Sam Ashaolu, the most seriously injured of five Duquesne University basketball players shot on campus.

The fragment, initially believed to be an intact slug, was removed from behind his left ear, Duquesne officials said. The player's medical team now believes Ashaolu, a junior forward from Toronto, Canada, has three bullet fragments remaining in his head.

Arizona State, Texas Tech Women To Play Game Outdoors

Six years ago, Arizona State met Tennessee in the first outdoor women's college basketball game.

Sun Devils coach Charli Turner Thorne enjoyed it so much she wanted to do it again. And she's convinced perennial power Texas Tech to participate this time.

The Sun Devils will meet the Lady Raiders on Dec. 18 at Chase Field, the Arizona Diamondbacks' retractable-dome stadium in downtown Phoenix.

"Basketball under the stars," Turner Thorne said. "It's going to be a lot of fun."
