Hardaway says career is over

Tim Hardaway has decided to call it quits.

''I wanted to play another year because I didn't go out the way I wanted to go out,'' Hardaway, 37, said via telephone Friday, sounding like no retirement is ever official. ``I went out being hurt. I never went out on my own terms. The coaches don't think I can play anymore. If they don't want me, forget it.''

Van Exel is out 10 days to rest his knee

So on the plane flight from San Antonio to Houston late Tuesday night, after having struggled through 28 minutes against the Spurs, the veteran decided to think long-term and elected to shut himself down for 10 days in hopes the pain goes away for good.

"I need to use my quickness, get into the lane and make some floaters, make some easy shots," the first-year Warrior said. "Right now I can't -- I can't accelerate."
