China Expects Yao To Play For National Team This Year

After a prior report that Yao Ming planned to forego playing the Chinese National Team and stay in Houston to relax and prepare for next season, Chinese officials in the authoritative nation are now calling for his return.

Previously Yao said, “"I just want to relax. I don't want to do anything. I'm not too used to being relaxed."

However, it now looks as if he may not have a choice in the matter.

"As a member of the China national team, Yao Ming must come back to play for China, according to the contract," said Li Jinsheng, a spokesman for the China Basketball Association.

"Yao Ming is expected to come to China soon, and he will join the team for training in June after a short period of rest," Li said.

Yao To Stay In Houston, Will Undergo MRI On Ankle

Yao Ming will not play for the Chinese national team this year and plans to spend his summer in Houston on holiday.

"I just want to relax," Yao said. "I don't want to do anything. I'm not too used to being relaxed."

An MRI exam will determine if he needs surgery to remove loose particles from his left ankle, followed by rehabilitation and training in Houston for at least a couple of months.

"The first thing about my summer is I don't want any scheduling," Yao said. "I don't want to wake up and think about what I need to do."
