Clippers Waive Ewing, Decline Option On Singleton

The Los Angeles Clippers today waived guard Daniel Ewing and declined to exercise the third-year contract option on forward James Singleton, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor. In two years with the Clippers, Ewing averaged 3.4 points, 1.4 assists 13.3 minutes per game. Ewing was the 32nd overall selection by the Clippers in the 2005 NBA Draft. Singleton, who originally signed with Los Angeles as a free agent prior to the start of the 2005-06 NBA season, averaged 2.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 10.1 minutes per game over his two-year career with the Clippers. In a related matter, the Clippers also declined to tender Singleton a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent as of July 1st.

Could Law Slip To Miami?

League executives believe Acie Law could be the last draft-night invitee to leave Madison Square Garden's green room, possibly falling to the Miami Heat at No. 20.

The Los Angeles Clippers are believed to have settled on Georgia Tech freshman Javaris Crittenton at No. 14, satisfying their need for a young point guard with Shaun Livingston's future uncertain.

And sources say the Atlanta Hawks are unlikely to take Law at No. 11, even if they keep the pick, which reportedly would go to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of the three-way Kevin Garnett trade involving the Phoenix Suns.

"That would be too much," Law said Wednesday. "That would be too perfect – to play with Dwyane Wade, to play with Shaquille O'Neal, to be coached by Pat Riley."

Rockets Appear Willing To Make More Deals Ahead Of Draft?

The Houston Rockets, who re-acquired guard Mike James for Juwan Howard last week, appear willing to make more trades ahead of next week's NBA Draft, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.

Vassilis Spanoulis already has all but written his own ticket out of town, telling the team recently that he will not participate in the summer league next month. The Rockets apparently are trying to snag one of the Mavericks' three second-round draft picks in exchange for Spanoulis.

The Los Angeles Clippers also appear to be discussing trading forward James Singleton (6-8, 215 pounds) to the Rockets in a deal that would involve John Lucas III.

And the Los Angeles Lakers are contemplating a deal involving guard Luther Head in exchange for power forward Brian Cook.
