Abdul-Rauf's House Burned

The Associated Press reports that the unoccupied Gulfport, Mississippi, home of former NBA player Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was destroyed by fire Monday. Arson is suspected. "I (once) said before I moved in, it would be burned down," Abdul-Rauf said. "This is just an indication, I think, of how far we've got to go in terms of human relations in this country." Abdul-Rauf came out of retirement to play with the Grizzlies last season. Earlier in his career he was surrounded by controversy for refusing to stand for the playing of the national anthem.

Erick Strickland on Hold

Erick Strickland opted out of his 6-year contract this summer in hopes for getting himself into a better opportunity. He's still waiting for that opportunity to present itself.

The Grizzlies, who have relocated to Memphis, are among a handful of teams Strickland has been talking to this summer. He also worked out for Miami and has talked with Phoenix and Cleveland.

``I'm looking for a situation that fits the way I play the game,'' said Strickland, who averaged just 4.3 points in 28 games with the Grizzlies last season after being traded from the Knicks.
