Memphis Turned Down Deal For A Team's Starting Point Guard?

While Pau Gasol is an untouchable for Jerry West, he has had trade discussions involving Shane Battier and Mike Miller.

The Grizzlies have already turned down a deal that would have landed them one of the league's starting point guards, West said.

"We need to do a good job in the draft this year," West said. "You have to give something to get something. Would we do that? Absolutely. ...Your mind is working constantly on how to get a player in here that will make a difference. Sometimes you do that at the expense of trading someone people wouldn't like (you to trade)."

O'Connor Mum On Boozer Talk

Jazz basketball boss Kevin O'Connor shed no light Monday on a weekend newspaper report that power forward Carlos Boozer is the subject of trade talks between Utah and the Memphis Grizzlies, the Deseret News is reporting.

"I've got no comment," said O'Connor.

Citing unidentified "plugged-in league executives" as its sources, the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal revealed Sunday that the Jazz and Grizzlies are talking about Boozer.

Talks between the Jazz and other teams evidently heated up earlier this month during the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando — with several players, not just Boozer, among the topics of discussion.
