Milwaukee Bucks WiretapCharlie Villanueva Swapped For T.J. Ford
Bucks General Manager Larry Harris has confirmed the deal, which was posted on the Bucks website. “The hard part of any trade is having to give up something in return,” Harris said. “T.J. is a talented, young athlete who gave his all to this organization for three years, both on and off the court. He was an inspiration to all of us when he found the will and strength to fight back from the neck injury he suffered during his rookie season. Many people thought he would never play basketball again, but he thrived in the face of adversity and now has the promise of a long NBA career ahead of him. We wish him much success in Toronto.” The trade will give the Bucks a formidable frontcourt with last year's first overall selection Andrew Bogut and Villanueva, while the Raptors fill their biggest hole at point guard. One would undoubtedly involve center Jamaal Magloire, whom Harris would not hesitate to move if the right deal came along. Washington is said to be interested. The other possible trade, according to a source, would be of a more "surprising" nature. Asked if his trade options involving Magloire had dried up, Harris said: "No. I think the thing was once you got into the draft, it was more focused in on that (draft). I didn't have anything for Jamaal relating to the draft. So when we got into the draft process, it really had no bearing on whether we could move Jamaal or not. (The conversations were) strictly draft picks, future draft picks and things like that." Harris did try to move into the first round or at least up in the second round. "A lot of things were going on," he said. Harris said that he was among those who were on the phone with the Blazers, who made six trades on draft night. "I was trying to do a couple things with Portland," he said. "They seemed to want to trade their whole team or at least acquire seven or eight players. I mean, it's incredible what was going on. I talked to (Portland scout) John Gabriel, and I said 'John, it's impressive; how are you keeping your roster updated?' They need all kinds of tags and erasers with all that stuff going on." They exercised the third-year option on the 7-foot center's deal. The Bucks picked Bogut first overall last year. "We drafted Andrew last season with the expectation that he would be a part of this franchise for a very long time and this is just another step in that process," general manager Larry Harris said in a statement.
