Minnesota head of basketball operations David Kahn met with Kevin McHale on Tuesday night, but hasn't commented on the status of the coach.
Kahn was officially announced as the new top executive of the Timberwolves on Friday.
A decision on McHale's future might have to wait until next week with Kahn headed to Chicago for a three-day NBA draft combine.
"I think that Kevin and I need to have a very open-ended discussion," Kahn said during his introductory press conference last week. "And by the way, we might need to have more than one discussion; we might need to have two or three. Ultimately, it needs to be something where we need to figure out what we need to do, and he will have a say in that."

Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor says that his friendship with Kevin McHale won't play a factor in whether or not he returns as the team's coach.
"Our fans could care less that I like or don't like Kevin; that's a personal thing," Taylor said. "I know our fans care greatly about us setting ourselves up for a championship team. Personally, that's my goal."
New executive David Kahn is expected to meet with McHale this week to determine whether or not he'll return to the club as head coach.
