Nets Decline $5 Million Option On Cliff Robinson

The Nets declined the $5 million club option on forward Clifford Robinson for the 2005-2006 season, saving $5 million on their salary cap next year.

The Nets acquired Robinson on Feb. 14 from the Golden State Warriors for two second-round draft picks. He played in 29 games, averaging 6.0 points and 3.3 rebounds. He averaged 7.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in four playoff games against Miami.

Nets president Rod Thorn said the team might be interested in re-signing Robinson, but at a lower price.

Nets' Stefanski: "This Draft Is Just So Weird"

"This draft is just so weird," Stefanski admitted. "There are a lot of players on the board we have to consider, but it seems the situation is constantly changing. Other than maybe six players, you can't say with certainty someone will be there or won't be there."

Stefanski reiterated the Nets' mantra since season's end: The team will take the "best player available." And that shouldn't be read as "best athlete available," otherwise they'd pick Hakim Warrick of Syracuse and call it a day. Warrick is athletically gifted but must be considered a halfcourt gamble.

On their radar is Spain's Fran Vazquez, Wayne Simien, Ike Diogu and Monta Ellis
