Steven Hunter, who showed much promise in his one year in Phoenix, is a free agent who is expected to make a decision this weekend about where he will play next year. He has narrowed his choices down to four teams - Dallas, New Jersey, Atlanta and Phoenix.
Hunter hopes to stay in Phoenix but could not get more than a one-year commitment for the minimum exception ($1.7 million) plus an option year from the team.
The 7-foot center is looking for a four or five-year deal and could end up with the Mavericks.

The New Jersey Nets named Pat Sullivan and Bob Thate to their coaching staff today, President and Chief Executive Officer Rod Thorn announced.
Sullivan, a graduate of UNC, will serve as the third bench assistant coach to Nets head coach Lawrence Frank. Thate will specialize in teaching shooting mechanics.
Sullivan, highly regarded among NBA executives as a potential future head coach, was fired by the Detroit Pistons last week when the team purged itself of all former coach Larry Brown's assistants. Sullivan most recently helped Dave Hanners and Phil Ford coach the Pistons' entry in summer league play.

Former Cavalier Jeff McInnis agreed to a two-year, $7 million deal with the New Jersey Nets on Thursday, an NBA insider confirmed.
The Cavaliers never considered re-signing the mercurial McInnis, but were in preliminary talks about sign-and-trade deals involving him. One target was Damon Jones, who opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat.
The Heat were interested in McInnis, which made the teams potential trading partners, but they weren't able to get anything done before the Nets swooped in and landed McInnis.
The team can still sign 3-point specialist Jones with their remaining salary-cap space, which is estimated to be around $3.5 million, but using a sign-and-trade would've removed that restraint.
The Miami Herald reported the Heat plan to work out Dajuan Wagner, another Cavaliers free agent not expected to re-sign. It is possible the two teams could attempt to get a sign-and-trade deal done involving Wagner and Jones.
