New Jersey Nets WiretapVince's Back Back On Track
Carter's strained back, injured during Monday's 100-97 loss to Golden State, still could keep him out of tonight's game at Sacramento. The Nets watched film yesterday before going through a walk-through practice. Carter rested his back and may be a game-time decision based on how he feels today after more treatment. "I was able to wake up and walk, that's good enough for me," Carter said at practice at the University of San Francisco before traveling to Sacramento. "Game-time decision. I'm not going to rush it. I won't know until I try to run, practice. Right now I'm trying to let the swelling come down, let it heal on its own first. (The medical staff) told me just relax." Carter reported no pain in his back. That was an improvement from less than 24 hours earlier when he took himself out a couple of plays after injuring his back on a tip-in during the first half. After halftime, Carter attempted to play but lasted less than two minutes before calling it a night. Read the Full Story Discuss Send Feedback Buy Tickets Carter Exits Early With Strained Back
Carter actually injured himself in the first half and left the game before trying to play through the pain in the third quarter. His status for tomorrow's game at Sacramento is unknown. "I don't know nothing," Carter said after huddling for several minutes with Lawrence Frank and trainer Tim Walsh. "I hurt it on a tip-in (in the first half). Two plays later I felt it." Wincing in pain and limping around the court, Carter waved to the Nets' bench to ask out. He still was able to drill a three-pointer before the Nets were able to call a timeout and get their star off the court. Carter (nine points) was escorted by Walsh to the locker room with 2:02 remaining in the half. Read the Full Story Discuss Send Feedback Buy Tickets Aching Collins Doubtful
"At half time, it tightened up, we were able to do some treatment, but it got to the point where I wasn't going to do the team any good on the court," said a frustrated Collins at the Nets' practice facility yesterday as the team reviewed film and prepared for the trip. Doctors and trainers have not been able to precisely diagnose the problem which Collins said they now believe is nerve-related. "We're doing a bunch of tests. It might be a nerve issue with some type of pinching going on, all my symptoms are in the front shin-area of my right leg," Collins explained.
