Another Legal Challenge To Brooklyn Arena

The Nets' plan to move the team to Brooklyn will face another legal challenge.

Several elected officials joined Brooklyn neighborhood groups to file a lawsuit seeking to reverse the state's approval of the project.

The developer, Forest City Ratner, said in response that it is not surprised that the opponents "who pledged to sue early and often are still suing."

Frank Safe Until Nets Get Back To Full Health

Sources indicate that Nets president Rod Thorn won't make any decisions on Lawrence Frank until the team gets back to full health, or close to full health.

Frank is a lame duck in the final year of his contract, but the Nets don't have an assistant that would be a proven choice to replace him.

Nets GM Kiki Vandeweghe is not considered a candidate for a similar demotion. So with former head coach Brian Hill having left the Nets for the Pistons, the only option available to Thorn would be to promote longtime assistant Tom Barrise.

Jayson Williams Takes Plea, Will Serve Up To Three Years

Jayson Williams has cut a plea deal that would send him to prison for up to three years for accidentally shooting a driver at his New Jersey estate in 2002, a person with knowledge of the case told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Williams, who retired in 2000 after playing nine seasons in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets, was to face a retrial in January on a reckless manslaughter count.
