Volatile Fortson Plays Nice

Volatile forward Danny Fortson has been in Seattle for the past week and said Thursday he will report to camp on time Monday and fulfill any role that is asked this season for the Sonics.

Fortson will earn $6.6 million in 2006-07, the final year of his contract. He said he expected to be traded -- considering his expiring contract could have served as a valuable trade chip -- but will not cause any controversy regardless of his role.

"I will be there (Monday)," Fortson said while driving to Furtado Center. "Everything is good. I am just working hard to get back on the court. I am going to honor my commitment with the Sonics. I am not here to cause any trouble."

Sund: Fortson Focus Is Health

By all accounts, the Sonics and Danny Fortson are continuing to repair an oftentimes rocky relationship beset with fines, suspensions and Fortson's trade demands.

The Sonics were unable to find anyone who would take Fortson's $6.6 million salary, but with only one year left on his contract, he could potentially be an attractive commodity for midseason trades. But it's unclear whether he will last that long with the Sonics if he becomes a disruptive presence, writes Percy Allen of the Seattle Times.

"So far, everything with Danny has been great," Sund said. "He's been here for the past two weeks working out. I don't think that's the question. The real question is how will his knee hold up?"

Sonics To Give Rush An Invite, Leave Christie Out

Seattle is expected to give a training camp invitation to free agent Kareem Rush, along with rookie guard Denham Brown, who was drafted in the second round.

Rush has played for the Lakers and Bobcats.

Doug Christie, who has been working out with several Sonics, will not be in the club's training camp, according to a source.

"He's been working out with us lately and it's like he's already a part of the team," forward Rashard Lewis said. "He could fit because he's a smart player and he's got the experience of being in the playoffs and going to the [Western Conference] finals."
