No Trades For 'Suspect Characters,' Magic Say

Magic General Manager Otis Smith said he has essentially made it known throughout the league that he has no interest in acquiring troubled players or players with suspect character.

"I think I've pretty much gotten that out there," Smith said.

Smith was not interested in Allen Iverson, and he said the Sacramento Kings -- who are apparently looking to trade controversial forward Ron Artest -- did not contact the Magic.

Smith said he would not have had any interest in dealing Hedo Turkoglu for Artest. Their salaries come close to matching. Turkoglu played his first three NBA seasons with Kings.

Grant Hill Will Not Be Dealt

Magic General Manager Otis Smith wants to put to rest any speculation about trading Grant Hill because Hill has an expiring contract.

"No," Smith said. "I don't see that happening at any point."

Hill's name was bandied about nationally in talks about Allen Iverson. Their salaries almost match (Hill makes about $17 million this season, Iverson $18), but Smith reiterated that the Magic have no interest in acquiring the Sixers All-Star.

Smith said he has yet to receive calls from teams interested in acquiring Hill, 34.
