Nash And Wallace Named Players Of The Week

Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash of Victoria has been named the NBA's Western Conference player of the week and Gerald Wallace of the Charlotte Bobcats was chosen the top player in the Eastern Conference.

Nash, last season's NBA MVP, led the league in assists in 9.7 per game in a 3-0 week for the Suns. He also averaged 21.7 points per game, shot 53.1 per cent from the field and had 3.7 rebounds per game.

Suns Recall Thompson From D-League

The Phoenix Suns recalled rookie guard/forward Dijon Thompson from the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBA Development League this weekend.

Thompson, who averaged 16.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.33 steals in three games with the Thunderbirds, rejoined the team at yesterday’s practice. The 6-7, 195-pound swingman, who has yet to make his NBA debut this season, is expected to be in uniform for Wednesday’s home game at 7 p.m. vs. Indiana at America West Arena.

Suns Executive Van Arsdale Suffers Stroke

Phoenix Suns executive Dick Van Arsdale, the first player chosen by Phoenix in the 1968 NBA expansion draft, had a stroke during the weekend, the Suns said Monday.

Van Arsdale, 62, was at his home when he was stricken Saturday.

"He is resting comfortably, and we hope for a full recovery," the team said in a statement.
