Spurs Reach Deal With UT star

According to the San Antonio Express-News the Spurs have reached an agreement on a two year contract with undrafted rookie James Thomas, making him the first University of Texas player to join the team since Johnny Moore.

Thomas, a 6-foot-8 forward, is expected to sign within the next couple of days. The first season of his minimum-salary deal is partially guaranteed. The second season is at the Spurs' option.

The Spurs are also looking to add center Ruben Boumtje Boumtje and point guard Marque Perry to their training camp roster, giving the team 18 players at the start of camp depending on the contract status of Angolan guard Valter Monteiro. The Spurs had hoped to sign Monteiro to a non-guaranteed deal, but the NBA and FIBA are investigating whether a foreign team still owns his rights.

San Antonio is still hopeful of attracting future Hall of Famer Karl Malone with an offer which remains open.

Spurs Looking at former Texas Center

The Spurs are almost done finalizing their roster and are looking for one last big man to add at the league minimum. Former UT center, James Thomas, seems to have garnered the Spurs attention and it now seems the Spurs are ready to move on him.

Mr. Thomas is the University of Texas’ all time leading rebounder and averaged 11.0 as a Junior, only to be sidelined his Senior year with a back injury. If the Spurs sign Thomas, it is a sign that the Mailman will probably not be running his postal route in the San Antonio any time soon.
