Michael Curry to meet with Denver

Free-agent small forward Michael Curry will meet with the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. He played for the Toronto Raptor last season, averaging 2.9 points per game.

It has come down to either Jon Barry or Curry for the Nuggets final roster spot. After joking that Curry is an "old man, like me," Barry added, "He gets himself ready. He's a consummate pro. A good guy to have in the locker room."

Curry may talk to another few teams, but his agent Guy Zucker did not disclose who might be interested in his client.

Woods To Get A New Start In Toronto

In a desperate move for some size, the Toronto Raptors signed 3rd year center, Loren Woods to a free-agent contract yesterday.

Woods has had a lackluster career in the NBA thus far, averaging 2.6 pints and 2.3 rebounds a game for the Timberwolves and the Heat. In spite of these numbers, the Raptors are still optimistic.

"Everything he brings right now is potential," Toronto general manager Rob Babcock said, trying to shed a little light on the matter yesterday. "He's not a proven centre in this league yet."

No Cold Water on Vince to Knicks Rumors

Knick president Isiah Thomas is trying to make the Knicks more athletic, he said after announcing the re-signing of Vin Baker. "We'll always continue to try and upgrade our team," Thomas said.

It seems his pursuit may take him north of the border. When asked specifically about the chances of landing Vince Carter, Thomas would not rule it out.

"We have a lot of players that are interested in playing for our team," Thomas said. "I am not in a position where I can discuss players on other teams. However, we are flattered and honored that they would want to play for our team."

Thomas would have to work a deal despite the Knicks' lack of salary cap flexibility.

"I've been known to be creative," Thomas said. "We definitely can put together creative deals here. Our owner gives us the flexibility to do that here. If we need to get creative in a package, we do have the means."

But Thomas repeated that he would not put Stephon Marbury in such a deal.

Thomas also discussed the unsuccessful bid to acquire Erick Dampier.
