Jazz Will Retire Stockton’s Number

In a move that surprises very few, the Utah Jazz will retire the number 12 in November to honor John Stockton. Mr. Stockton spent 19 seasons with Utah and holds the NBA records for career steals and assists.

"We are excited to honor John in this special way," Jazz owner Larry Miller said in a statement. "We look forward to hosting him and his family on Nov. 22. The evening will certainly be memorable."

Security Concerns Keep the Jazz out of Moscow

The Utah Jazz are postponing their commitment to play an exhibition game in Moscow, Russia that was scheduled for next month citing concerns over security.

This development comes in the wake of the rebel occupation in Beslan two weeks ago that left over 300 dead.

"I would like to express my deepest condolences for what the Russian people have endured in recent weeks. Our thoughts are with them," NBA commissioner David Stern said in a statement.

Puerto Rican Star Nabs Gatorade Contract

Carlos Arroyo, fresh of an impressive performance in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, has signed a one-year contract to represent the Gatorade brand.

"I am very proud to have been chosen as Gatorade's official spokesperson because the brand has always supported and highlighted the efforts of athletes," Arroyo said in a statement. "I am grateful for the vote of confidence in my abilities that this represents. I am also honored to be placed in the same league as Roberto Clemente because, like him, I am 100% committed to my athletic career and always aware of my responsibility to represent Puerto Rico wherever I go."
