Nick Masset, the pitcher obtained from the White Sox in the Griffey exchange, made his Reds debut Friday in relief of Homer Bailey — three innings, no runs, one hit, one walk, one strikeout.
"He did well, very well," Baker said. "He threw strikes, kept the ball down, good velocity, good sink, a couple of good sliders, only one walk. That's the longest he has gone in quite awhile, but he kept his pitch count down.
"He used to be a starter and has been a relief pitcher, but when I asked what he preferred, he said, 'Starter,' " Baker added. "Hey, he's a big, strong kid, so who knows."
