Casey done with the Tigs...

Post#1 » by Low-Ki » Sun Sep 30, 2007 6:39 pm

On the pre-game show today Leymand stated that Casey was informed that he wouldn't be back with the club next season. He asked to play his last game today and was pencilled in at first base.

Whilequite possibly the nicest player in baseball and well-deserving of his nickname of "The Mayor", it simply didn't make any sense for Sean to be brought back with Guillen moving over to first next season. While he would have been a good pinch hit lefty bat off the bench, you need positional flexibility in your bench players and Casey is only a first baseman and to be nice just say he doesn't have pinch runner speed.

Finally Casey's $4M comes off the books, allowing us to put that towards our new shortstop next season, or maybe allow us to bring back Rogers or Jones. Illich said he'll spend to win a world series, but the Yankees and BoSox we are not.

Casey did us a huge favor by signing a one-year deal last off-season, it's just too bad it didn't work out and we didn't get into the play-offs. I hope he catches on with a starting gig somewhere and gets one last 2-3 yr contract before he hangs then up.
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.
