Dodgers Zack Greinke, Adrian Gonzalez, Joc Pederson and Yasmani Grandal were added to the National League All-Star team on Monday, with Clayton Kershaw a finalist in the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote.

Cast your Esurance Final Vote for Kershaw

Greinke and Pederson were elected by the players, while Gonzalez and Grandal were added by San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy, manager of the NL squad.

For a change, the fans must correct an oversight by the players and National League manager Bruce Bochy, instead of the other way around.

Kershaw is one of five players nominated for the NL Final Vote, along with Johnny Cueto, Jeurys Familia, Carlos Martinez and Troy Tulowitzki.
...

The bottom line: Once the NL had formed its roster, someone from Major League Baseball should have said, "No Kershaw? What the hell are we doing?"
...

C'mon, fans. Make him an All-Star. Save your sport from looking dumb.

Bill James' Current Rankings of Best Pitcher

Post#2 » by Ranma » Tue Jul 7, 2015 9:37 pm

I just want to redirect the previous "Kershaw vs. Sale" conversation to Kershaw's bid for the final NL All-Star spot since I just came across the rankings below.

Quake Griffin wrote:Better stuff than Kershaw.
just doesnt go into games as deep and eat innings like Shaw…Honey could coach him up.

I said it. I don't care. It's true.

Rob Neyer, Fox Sports (7/7/15)
When I compared all those guys, I was just sorta fooling around. Four years ago, Bill James got all serious and stuff, constructing a framework for ranking every starting pitcher at any moment, based on past-performance game scores and accounting for inactivity, park effects, and (uniquely, I think) postseason games. He doesn’t call it The Best Pitcher in the World Rankings. No, Bill calls it the World’s #1 Starting Pitcher Rankings. And guess who just took over (by a hair!) as #1:

1. Max Scherzer (588.4)
2. Clayton Kershaw (588.0)
3. Chris Sale (567.3)

4. Zack Greinke (557.7)
5. David Price (546.6)
6. Felix Hernandez (546.5)
7. Madison Bumgarner (545.4)

Those are the only guys with scores higher than 540, but the next three guys (all above 520) are Johnny Cueto, Cole Hamels, and Corey Kluber, and there are five more who—shoot, you can see the whole list for yourself.

Let's Send World's No. 2 Starting Pitcher to Cincinatti!

He's one of the biggest snubs I've ever seen.

by the metrics he's been awesome.
by the stone age, there's a ton of people who have been better.

and that's annoying

Pedro Martinez

Post#5 » by Ranma » Sun Jul 26, 2015 9:33 pm

I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this but I wanted to acknowledge Pedro Martinez's induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Oh, what could have been had the Dodgers not traded him for Delino DeShields. I guess that's what the organization deserved for questioning his size in being able to handle the rigors of starting pitching. Pedro is a legend in Boston and it is a well-deserved recognition.
