M's 2-0 vs Angels 0-2 4/2/14

Post#1 » by iceman1685 » Thu Apr 3, 2014 1:38 am

The Seattle Mariners have routinely been among baseball's worst offensive teams over the past four years.

So far, that's changed dramatically.

The Mariners will try to continue their offensive onslaught as they go for their best start in 19 years while sending the Anaheim Angels to their worst in 22.

Seattle (2-0) owns the lowest batting average over the past four seasons at .235. The team did little to change that hitting an AL-low .237 last season, ranking only better than Miami (.231).

M's up 1-0 early! Great base running by Miller...I thought he was dead meat at second but that slide was sublime. Also a great catch by Almonte an inning ago to kill a scoring opportunity for the Angels.

I'm glad he/they decided to attack Cano with Miller on 2nd. He made them pay. The M's started off making Santiago throw a lot of pitches as he struggled with his command...they need to stick with that plan.

BTW I appreciate the game thread but be careful about posting full articles without a proper cite/link...you typically don't want to go over three paragraphs as a rule.

Two good defensive plays by Will Bloomquist at 3B. I don't mind him getting the start tonight. I normally oppose it but he hits LHP pretty well.

yeah getting him some playing time is not a horrible idea since seager has struggled in his first 2 game

Typically you want to add the URL if you can.

He's got great stuff and he throws pretty damn hard. I think the sky's the limit but I want to see how long he can keep it up. He's looked great with the big club, but his minor league stats were never eye-popping.

I think he got better late in his stint with Tacoma but that's hard today without splits.

Why do you not bunt with Almonte there? Is Wedge managing this club again?

He showed bunt twice...I think he was trying. To which I have the exact opposite reaction you did. :) I don't like to give up outs especially against a SP who's struggling with his command. Then again, in that situation it might have meant an extra run scored if Miller came through in the same way.

It's shameful. Given the amount of money that team unloaded on McCann, Beltran, Ellsbury, and Tanaka you'd think they'd be improved by default. But that team's old at a lot of positions and their infield [Jeter/Teixiera/Johnson/Roberts] is just horrible. Sabathia looks like he might be finished.

yeah you would think they might just need to gel but i honestly am glad it is happening to them. i dont care for teams that buy buy buy and have no real farm. did you see the article of them getting rid of nunez there SS prospect that was thought to be jeters replacement.

That's 5 K's in a row...God bless the Angels for swinging at everything.

Did you get a chance to watch him during the spring? Not many M's games were broadcast but I watched two of Elias' starts. There's not a ton of info on him given his age and status as a Cuban defector, but he throws low-to-mid 90's with a hard curve that cuts across the plate towards the outside edge with downward movement. He switches arm angels sometimes which might confuse hitters some but the conventional wisdom is it's harder to remain consist when you do that.

If he can locate that curve--and he did pretty well with it this spring--he's going to make some guys look foolish.
