Will we be able to retain DJJ and Exum after this season?

Post#1 » by ChipotleWest » Sat Feb 24, 2024 5:47 am

Both are out playing their low salary (although Exum has been injured which is common for him), both will require more money.

DJJ is in his 9th season and having his highest ppg and 3 point average. Has to be some Luka effect there that might scare away other teams I would think. I think we can keep him for the MLE.

Exum is signed for next year.
DJJ should be retainable for the tax MLE, unless something unexpected happens.

Exum is a 3M team option, that DAL will likely keep him next season, unless major injury happened. DJJ is another story, depending on the FA market situation

We're starting to hear alittle bit Exum is getting very close to returning. I loved the play of Exum and Lively on the court together as they were dynamic on defense and I think it can be the same with Gafford .
Exum has shown he has the game and maturity to play with Luka and Kyrie at the same time or with either when they're staggering the minutes.
I'm excited to see Exum as the POA defender and am very pleased how Luka is playing defense as well. Kyrie is smart and pesky as a defender and I think they are finding their roles defensively and this is key going into the stretch run.

Exum is signed for another year, and ideally DJJ does not cost more than the biannual exception.

If the Mavs are going to go deep that means Exum has to get up to speed to play 30 mpg sooner than later.
It's been hard to get Exum ,Luka and Kyrie on the court the same time let alone building chemistry with Gafford and PJ as well.

Hopefully they can sign DJJ to a team friendly deal. They should give up on Exum, he's proven time and time again he cant handle the NBA

If Kidd would have given Prosper more opportunity when William's sucked and Maxi was out, keeping DJJ might not be so important.

We'll go into next season knowing nothing about Prosper again so resigning Jones or signing someone of his caliber will be imperative.

Prosper didn't look playable anytime he was on the floor, his defense doesn't compensate for his attrocious offense.
He's looking better in G-league though, more fluid on offense his shot looks much better.

On the T&T board a guy knowledgable with the CBA said that according to the new CBA, trading for more than the outgoing salary hardcaps at 1st Apron, it'll really complicate roster building for the Mavs.

Yeah, it's something like:
125% ----> hardcap at 1st apron
110% ----> hardcap at 2nd apron
100% ----> above 2nd apron

Agree.

However i'm not so worried about those 2 guys, DJJ is a fine role player with a great start but now he comes back on earth. But i think he will resign here, better situation ever for him.
Exum is very good and useful like third ballhandler but his healthy is a huge problem but we have the PO so it's ok.

Not sure he would have been much worse than Williams.

Dallas needs to split the MLE between DSJ and DJJ. Maybe 2 years guaranteed, 3rd year player option for DJJ. By that time, Omax should be ready.

Yes, I expect both to be back next season.
We must keep our talent and continue to build. It seems like that would be obvious but it hasn't been the case.

It will be too expensive to keep DJJ, given his stellar performance earlier in the season, now his has come down to the earth again.
