RS 23/24 - Mavs @ Raptors (730PMEST)

Post#1 » by Dirk » Wed Feb 28, 2024 12:50 pm

Mavs catching a break here as Max Strus is unavailable for Toronto.

Rare footage of J Kidd showing emotion. Too bad the rest of the game he just has the arms folded.

This feels like a very tough game after such a devastating loss. Let's hope the Raptors don't have a good game --- they are on a 3 game win streak.

Easy win for us tonight. Our guys must have fire in their eyes.

My doctor told me to stop watching Mavs for health issues, while Dirk said Strus is not available for Raptors so that's a huge plus. Now i'm kinda torn and don't know what to do.

If Mavs lose this game, fire Kidd.

If Mavs win this game, fire Kidd.

Its good to get Exum back and see him as the POA defender again. He's smarter and more experienced than Green is .I'm still waiting to see the 2 man Center position we all thought we were going to get .
I don't think the Maxi at Center lineup gets the Mavs past the 1st round but I think the Lively/Gafford at Center lineup can take the Mavs to the NBA western championship against the Nuggets.

If last night is anything to go by, Gafford may be out of the rotation already. Maybe that's an overreaction after 1 game but with Kidd you never know.

When you watch Maxi play no one is afraid of his rim protection like they are with Gafford and Lively. Another factor is Maxi CANNOT gobble up rebounds like both Gaff and Lively can.
I'll be glad Maxi MISSES tonights Toronto's game.

This is true, but also no one is afraid of Gafford & Lively on the switch out on the perimeter so guys right now are getting some easy looks at 3s.

Gaff and Lively are Centers and the same could be said about Gobert,Jokic,KP,Towns,Zubac, and I can go on,and on about them switching on the perimeter too BUT that still not a good enough reason to play a washed up Maxi over them.

I'm honestly not expecting some kind of miracles with a new coach. But i do expect to see some competence with lineup changes, adjustments during games and at least take proper time outs to stop opposing runs. How many times did the opposing teams go on like 15-2 or even higher runs before Kidd remembered he can do something about it.

Oh yeah, and few offensive sets with proper ball movement when Luka is not on the floor would be nice. Sick and tired of watching Kyrie play 1v5 even on good nights. He's not in the same stratosphere as Luka when it comes to playmaking.

Yeah this one isn't so hard to ask from him and it's infuriating. Even last night in the 4th when CLE was obviously picking on both Luka & THJ in PnP action, he didn't call a timeout until Strus's 4th straight 3 went in. Luka was switching and THJ kept hedging on the screen which kept leaving Strus open. He basically waited until the lead completely evaporated to finally make a change and get THJ out. IND did a lot of the same action in the last game too. So there's no excuses for Kidd to not notice this and adjust quicker.

Yep agreed. THJ had no reason to be in the game at that point. Get either Green or DJJ to guard Strus if you see he can't miss. THJ is literally a PROVEN worst defender on this team.

Somehow Kidd thinks he's a positive defender. I've seen way too many times THJ being in on "defensive" possessions. It's mind boggling.

He should have taken the timeout as soon as Struss hit the second 3pointer(when Timmy and Kai Lost the ball)...Look at what Rick did when they played the Pacers...as soon as Mavs hit two threes he took a timeout...meanwhile Kidd thinks he needs to let them figure it out.... you're a coach, you're paid millions of dollars to calm them down, help them out when they struggle... if you wanna just watch the game I'm sure they'd give you season tickets in the front row and you won't have to do a thing but watch and enjoy...btw,when Struss hit the second three it was time to sub Timmy out and put Green or DJJ on him...but no, he kept Timmy in ,despite the fact he always runs thru the screen (meaning he's trailing behind the attacker) ,instead of switching
