Darvish could command a contract somewhere between the six-year, $52.6 million contract that the Red Sox signed Daisuke Matsuzaka to in 2006, and the five-year, $77.5 million contract that C.J. Wilson agreed to with the Angels earlier this month.

With that said and reading other articles is five-years and $75 million a good gamble for this kid?

I say they should go for it but I can't help but think about Chen Ho Park.
Isn't that about the same deal he got from the Rangers?

Could not believe it. Still need to tap on the brake, but exciting news. The best part may be that Rangers kept the prospects in place while potentially getting a potential front of the rotation guy. Gio was way too expensive to Wash IMO, and he is very questionable to be an ace. He is very good tho.

Yu Darvish has headed back to Japan.
Darvish spent all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday visiting the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex and meeting with Rangers officials. It's not known if negotiations took place. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a 1.44 ERA and 276/36 K/BB ratio across 232 innings last year in Nippon Professional Baseball and is thought to be seeking a five-year, $75 million deal from Texas. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Rangers have offered Japanese right-hander Yu Darvish a deal similar to what Daisuke Matsuzaka got from the Red Sox.
Dice-K signed a six-year, $52 million contract with Boston in December of 2006. Early reports had Darvish seeking a five-year deal in the range of $75 million, so the two sides are likely a ways apart. They have until January 18 to come to some sort of compromise. Darvish, 25, posted a 1.44 ERA and 276/36 K/BB ratio across 232 innings last year in Nippon Professional Baseball. He was in Texas last week for a couple of days to visit the Dallas area and to meet with Rangers execs. http://jon-heyman.blogs.cbssports.com/m ... 2/34284855

I watched this guy pitch a ton when I was living in Japan. Although nothing's for sure, I believe this kid's going to be special. I'll envy your beloved Rangers big time if they can sign him.

Official: Yu Darvish signs with the Rangers. The contract 6 yr./60 million is a pretty reasonable deal. Though with the posting fee it pushes it to 112 million, but the cotract itself is a good deal. I expect Darvish to pitch well during MLB career but with slight early problems.

So who gets sent to the bullpen now?

Starters
Lewis
Holland
Darvish
Feliz

Harrison?
Ogando?

I say Ogando, and he may end up as Closer if Nathan cannot do it any more.
