2013 Prospects Thread

Post#1 » by Bucksfans1and2 » Sat May 12, 2012 7:44 pm

I figure we could use a place to discuss 2013 prospects now that the 2012 draft is over and all the grades have been given out.

Rankings don't mean anything right now, because I haven't watched any of these guys enough to say anything intelligent about any of them.

QB Rankings:

Some early thoughts on Logan Thomas, Oday Aboushi, Mingo and others:
http://nflsfuture.com/2012/05/17/early- ... pressions/

FWIW the recent QB I would most compare Logan Thomas with is Ryan Tannehill. Still not a huge Barkley fan but I see promise.

I don't hate on him. I just think he doesn't consistently look like a strong NFL prospect. He's got another full season to convince me. My mind is always open.

He'll still have two first round receivers (most likely) so probably.

Spent some time this morning watching Jake Matthews T TAMU. son of Bruce, nephew of Clay II, cousin of Clay III and Casey. Very hard to see him not being a top 20 pick even though he doesn't explode real consistently at this point. He has such easy and natural base strength and he can really move for a big man, lethal in space on screens and QB runs. He often had to cheat inside a little because his guard couldn't anchor and he still had enough length and agility to recover and get the speedy wide rushers very adeptly. Early impression of the tackle class for next year is very impressive. Both he and Aboushi are just as good at this point as Ryan Kalil was at the same point last year, and Matthews' teammate Chris Joeckel, DJ Fluker from Bama and both guys from LSU (Faulk, Hurst) are all better at the same point than Reiff or Adams or anyoen else from '12. Joeckel looks and plays like he goes to Wisconsin, not Texas A&M.

As an aside, Ryan Tannehill throwing on the move >> Andrew Luck on the move, more like a bigger/stronger armed Matt Hasselbeck.

Both of the A&M guys look amazing. They had their way with the Texas ends.

That family is amazing, but I think Casey may have been adopted.

I have a hard time seeing Gholston from MSU as anything other than a top-10 pick.

Yeah :football:

I still think Clay II is one of the most underrated players in NFL history. When the Browns asked him to be a pass rusher, bam 12 sacks. Next season they asked him to play anchor end and cover TEs, bam led all league OLBs in tackles and INTs. He played all 4 LB spots and both sides as a DE on some very good defenses in both Cleveland and Atlanta. Wasn't the flashiest, wasn't the most dominant at anything, but there was nothing he didn't do at an above average level for a freakishly long time.

Woods is unbelievable. He looked like an NFL starter as a freshman and only seems to get better.

No. 2 on the list, were he eligible, should be Marqise Lee, Woods' teammate. They both have similar physical profiles, only Lee is a little more stout physically and I think he may actually be faster. Both are absurd athletes and both should thrive in the NFL.

Justin Hunter and Da'Rick Rogers are both awesome players but each has a knock (injuries for Hunter, immaturity for Rogers) that could hold them back at the next level. Wilson is incredible; he'll probably end up a first-round pick when all is said and done. Love watching him play.

I wish I knew the Big Twelve players better, but on first impression Swope is nothing more than a possession receiver (is he even that fast?), along with Abbrederis. Connor Vernon is another possession type. I'd love to watch more of Stills, though, since he's Oklahoma's latest greatest thing but dear God I have a blind hatred of Sooners players and I can't shake it.

This year's WR and DE class is scary deep. Super early prediction but I don't see Matt Barkley being taken #1 overall or even the 1st QB taken.

He'll be a really good QB at the next level but the scouts are going to nitpick him so bad. You'll be hearing a lot about his size, arm, competition, elite supporting talent and the lack of successful USC QB's recently much more than you'll hear about his decision making, anticipation, maturity, 4 solid years of game tape in an NFL system.

one of the Biggest Sleeper is For Sure without a doubt in my mind is DE Margus Hunt from SMU.

ur talking about a 6 foot 7 290 pound end with the Athletic abilities of Julius Peppers(thats very high praise) and is actually stronger than Peppers. his production in college hasnt been much except as a Special Teamer where he excells at blocking kicks. while he doesnt have the production ur also talking about a guy whos older than ur typicla rookie at age 26 but ur also talking in terms of Football age of only 4 years of Football experience so ur talking TONS of potential and if Al Davis was alive and the raiders were picking in the top 5 no question imo that al davis would take him at 5.

i agree which is why i said Sleeper. right now im seeing him as a mid first- 2nd round pick. Just depends if a team wants to take a Huge Swing for him or not. id really would take a shot in the 2nd round.

Browns used their 2nd round pick in 2013 on former Baylor WR Josh Gordon in today's supplemental draft. Big, fast, strong, but incredibly inexperienced. His coaches all vouched for his character even though he had a pot bust and some academic issues.

A couple of draftniks had him pretty high after breaking him down but I wouldn't have given up above a 4th for his services.
